As TREM Gallery owes its name to the proximity of the railway line, and the name of the street where it is situated, One Stop Away, bringing together works by artists from Faro and members of the Olhão Painters group, was an obvious choice as the title for this collective painting exhibition organised by Artadentro in collaboration with the Municipal Museum of Faro,
One Stop Away, with paintings by Ana André, Jeffrey Gaylord Carter, Jill Stott, Meinke Flesseman and Vasco Vidigal, exhibits works which approach the landscape from different perspectives: landscape as plein-air painting, as an update of the pre-impressionist tradition; landscape as a theme/pretext for expressive exploration; landscape as dwelling place; landscape as a matter of pictorial exploration; or landscape altered by technology.
Whichever perspective is adopted, it seems safe to affirm — at least in One Stop Away— that the landscape genre, though mutated, continues to provide the artist with a vast range of artistic expression and a rare space for reflection and freedom.
